A Long Summer: Diy Dressers

So I know I promised you more blogs. But hey life happens. Sorry about the disconnect. But if you are following me on Instagram as Sublime Home or Facebook as Sublime Design Home then you're already in the know of why I have been absent. And what I have been doing in the meantime. So first off I didn't forget about you. I love yall! But clients called and of course I went a running. Now that's out of the way. Lets get down to it.

Yes Fall is officially here, but during the summer I was working hard! Really Hard! On what? Right. Well unfortunately, I can't tell you all in one post. However, I will begin on this one. So come back because I will be posting Diy projects and client reveals over the next serveral weeks to get you up to speed. As well as, keeping you informed on what I'm doing now.

Ok what's first. Mmmmm Mmmmmm let's see (as I rub my hands together to determine which is the best story to pick up from). OH I know. Diy Dressers. Over the summer outside of working on clients spaces I transformed a several pieces of furniture. Now if you're new here I have tons of Diy projects and my routine to get them from drab to fab is usually the same. Since I've be gone for some time I'll just jump right in.

OOOOOhhHHH take a look at this monstrosity. Right. Well I picked it up from an apartment complex for free. The original occupants of the home left it behind. Now it was heavy. Yep Super solid. But we got it. Brought it home. Cleaned it up, lightly sanded it and went to town with my handy spray gun.

The knobs were not actual brass so polishing them really didn't work. No worries! I pulled out a can of my favorite spray paint and went to town. (Rustoluem of course.)

And this is how it turned out! Bee U T Ful... Right.. I know.

To let you in on a secret because I know you're wondering how did I know that ugly thang would turn out Gorg. Well I've come to learn that pieces with ornate detail shines brightly when color is added to it such as a white, pink, black or grey. Even if I would have chosen green or orange this bad boy still would have shined brighter than any star.

So the next time you're out looking for the special piece keep in mind the mostly ugliest will be the baddest in the end! Yep!
Ok so know that we've gotten that out the way. Take a look at this piece. I found these at the Goodwill Outlet store here in town. A set of nesting tables that had been painted way too many times. Yea they were Ug Ga Lee! Lol. But you already know that wasn't an issue that a little sanding and spray paint couldn't fix. $15 bucks for 3 tables was a no brain-er.

I did what I had to and this was the final result. I used of them in a guest room. After I added some faux crocodile fabric with some nail heads. You do know that they're really thumb tacks tho. Yea when push comes to shove. I'm just saying.

Isn't the fabric amazing. While here's another tip. I only paid a $1 for it. How? Well because it was a sample piece that my local fabric was getting rid of and boy did they have tons of it!

Here are the tables in the space. Just lovely huh. Well thanks. At this point I'm guessing you want to know more about that room. Well come back for the next post and I will show you my clients reaction as I reveal the room to her. Until then my friends. Toodles!

I  started a new series that focuses on some of the many treasures I find on the curb.  I call it Sublime Home Curbside Diy.  We all see them... We'll slow down, weave up and down the street, shout "OMG pull over" at the person driving.  Yea that just means you've found an awesome find on the side of the road. Right? Right!
So here's the UGLY FRENCH I found on the corner.  Yes someone set this bad boy or girl out. And I picked it right on up. The detail and lines on this thing is pure beauty!
The handles I sprayed using Rustoleum Silver Metallic spray paint.

I did some sanding but didn't strip it.  I mainly sanded out the drip spots from the previous paint job and any dings and dents.
I wanted a smooth surface so I sanded until I was content.
For the doors, the knobs that were on it were ugly and small.  So I replaced them with crystal knobs (which I love on so Much!)
One last look at the Ugly French....
Now the Ooh La La!
So what do you think, is this a keep driving sorta find or a "OMG stop!" kinda piece?

Guess what I want to start a series which would be ongoing that focuses on some of the many treasures I find on the curb.  I'll call it Sublime Home Curbside Diy.  We all see them... We'll slow down, weave up and down the street, shout "OMG pull over" at the person driving.  Yea that just means you've found an awesome find on the side of the road. Right? Right!
Now if you've been following me on my Instagram (@SublimeHome) or Facebook (@SublimeDesignHome) you may have already seen some of my Curbside Diy projects already.  So today I'll show you one of my lastest projects!

BEAUTIFUL RIGHT?  Ah... It didn't start out that way... No Sir Re-buddy it didn't! Lol.
But that's the beauty in it right!  Well for me it is. It might now be that piece that everyone will google at... Well obviously because its on the side of the road.  And if anyone in there right mind would knew that, then it wouldn't be any curbside furniture......
Just waiting.... And.... waiting... Yep just for us!  See It just called out to me... Lol. Not actually.  Now that you've seen the before would you have picked it up or kept it moving?
Yep this hideous piece of beauty was a great score! Made from solid wood, with 9 drawers and the handles just scream Oh my Goodness in a good way of course.  If any thing else I would have just taken them off and kept it moving.
Here's a before and after shot...

Now during each post depending on my time, I may add a brief account of what I did to it.. So today, It's your day because I have a little more insight for ya.
The handles look to have been a brass.  But because of all the aging of them; just weren't that shiny brass I wanted.  So I tried to clean them and soak them and polish them... But none of that worked.  So when all else fails... just spray paint!  Once that was done I started my painting process.  Now I have several tutorials on my paint process when it comes to these things.  You can click here to see my most recent.

Let me just add: Not all of the curbside items are in perfect condition.  Hence the white wood you see in the photo.  Yes the frame was missing from but the door that went there was still with the dresser.  So I just cut two other pieces and screwed them in.  Once painted you couldn't ever tell the difference.
Here is a clip of me me spraying the dresser with my spray gun.  I love this thing!  Got it for Christmas a few years back and it's still going strong!  (purchased from Harbor Freight for under $30 too)
I added another coat of paint and I didn't use any primer this time.
Can you see a difference in the doors?
Me either!  So what do you think, is this a keep driving sorta find or
 a "OMG stop!" kinda piece?
